Humayun Ahmed

Humayun Ahmed: Man with Magic
Humayun ahmed has spell bound a nation for more than three decades with his magical creations. Like a magician, he is very simple in his approach. But it is Humayun’s great virtue that he can portray a character with minimal of effort. It looks effortless the way he creates a character. He hardly makes his readers think hard. Rather he does all the hard work to tell a story in a simple manner. It is perhaps his simplicity that has grabbed the attention of millions of readers over such a long period of time.

Most Popular Bengali Writer of All Time?
Well, this will perhaps make the critics very angry. There are legends like Rabidronath, Nazrul, Manik, Tarashankar and so on.
Popularity is directly concerned with people. And you must agree that at present there is the highest number of people speaking bangle than ever. And Humayun Ahmed is ‘The Popular’ writer in Bangladesh, west Bengal and anywhere of the world where people speak bangle.
So, perhaps there is not much doubt as his fans (they are the biggest community) claim Humayun Ahmed as the most popular Bengali writer of all time.

Humayun Ahmed- 2nd from right.

How Popular Humayun Ahmed Is:
It is really unbelievable that popularity can expand to that extent. Humayun ahmed is been the biggest craze for the readers for more than two decades. His biggest fans are girls (and their moms as well). In fact, it is a matter of grief for many girls that they have borne late (Humayun is over 60 years, now).
It is the amar ekushey book fair that brings the spot light on Humayun ahmed. Publishers make queue in front of Humayun’s house from a long ago in quest of a novel. And, why not? Any book titled with ‘Humayun Ahmed’ guarantees success. It is also said that, any publisher, lucky enough to publish a book of Humayun ahmed, is likely to buy a flat or brand new car very soon.

Humayun Ahmed and Himu:
Humayun Ahmed, the creator of Himu, has evoked the biggest craze in Bengali literature. Mourakshi, Ebong himu, Himu rimande- are some of the novels of himu series. very few authors do get the opportunity to create a character. Because it needs some popularity to carry on with a character. So Humayun ahmed is the right person to create such a character. Himu is a person who is driven by heart (much like Humayun ahmed?) rather than head. So he can refuse all the logical rules and also can create some suitable ones for him. Himu is actually not the way a human being behaves but the way a human being may desire to behave.

Humayun Ahmed and Misir Ali
Misir ali , another vastly popular character created by Humayun Ahmed. Devi, Ami Misir Ali, Baghbandi Misir Ali- some of the novels of this series.
Misir ali is a person with a very casual approach and a very sharp observation. He is person who relies on his intuition, which is very sharp, of course. He lives in a logical world.

All human being is a combination of some logical thoughts and some emotional activity. But how it would look like if someone simply own emotional activity or someone takes only logical steps. Humayun Ahmed, perhaps answer both of the question by Himu and Misir ali.

Filmography
Humayun Ahmed is been one of the most successful director in Bengali films (keeping those sick filmmakers out of count). All of his films are made from his novels. Some of those films are

1. Shankhonil Karagar
2. Srobon Megher Dine
3. Dui Duari
4. Shamol Chaya.
5. Amar ache jol.

There is Another Side
Unfortunately, this is not all about Humayun ahmed. There is another topic to be covered for this very popular writer. Humayun ahmed is perhaps the most criticized writer of recent time. He has always been criticized for his novels which are great in numbers but not that great in quality. A number of his novels fail to touch the depth of human life. What it makes his fans angry that his many books are written without any clue (well, money is a clue, for sure). They are just written to fill some pages and make publishers happy. It is really unfortunate that someone with the ability of writing Nandito Naroke or Chader Aloy Kayekjon Jubok does write without any clue.

And Way to Go
Besides grabbing the attention of a large number of readers, Humayun Ahmed has also created ‘readers’. These readers wait throughout the year for the release of Humayun ahmed’s book. One may say that these are not the most matured readers to have. But nevertheless they are ‘readers’-Far better than ‘viewers’ or ‘listeners’. This is a great success for Humayun. We wish him good health till the end of his life and hope to see more creative works from him.

Muhammad Jafar Iqbal

Muhammad jafar iqbal, one of the most popular writer of resent time, is perhaps more renowned for his strong stand in issues of national interest. Unlike any popular writer, he has made his opinion clear in almost every issue that has come to him.
Muhammad jafar iqbal is widely popular among the younger generation. It is really wonderful that besides loving his books the new generation is more likely to set him as an idol. In this country, in our time, there is a miserable lack of people who can be the idol for the youngster. Perhaps Muhammad jafar iqbal will be remembered more for his contribution to society as a human being rather than a writer or even as a renowned scientist. He is much like those charecters of his novels and adventures who believe that it is not the skilled or famous person but the person with a big heart can really contribute to a country.

Ahmad Safa, another very mighty writer of Bengali literature, was very affectionate to Muhammad jafar iqbal . In one of his letter he mentioned that jafar iqbal is the only person in this region who not only understand science but actually feel it. This writer will perhaps be remembered not only for his novels but for his feeling for people and the way he responded to his feelings.

Anisul Haque

Anisul haque, the writer, holding the 3rd position in popularity ranking after Humayun ahmed and Md. zajar iqbal. Extremely popular among youngsters. he is also very popular for his columns called 'Gadya carton', among people of all age.

Anisul haque is a graduate of BUET (Banglaladesh University of Engineering and Technology) in civil engineering. Though he likes to introduce himself as an unsuccessful engineer because he chosen journalism rather than engineering as his profession.

He is well Known for creating novels on very contemporary issue. He is also one of the most popular dramatist (though, not for stage) of recent time. Only his name is good enough, in most cases, to make a successful drama. He has created some great dramas for TV viewers, like 'Nal Piran'(Red Shirt) and many more.

Well, 'dynamic' is the right adjective to describe someone like Anisul haque. As a writer he didn’t confined himself in a particular type of writing. he is also the script-writer of two movies- 'Bachelor' and 'Made in Bangladesh’. Both of them are box office hit.

Anisul haque and Mustafa Sorwar Faruki is the most popular couple (Don’t Take it other way) in showbiz. This writer-director couple has set a new trend for themselves. They have changed the taste of many TV viewers and thereby have set their own trend. Mustafa sorwar faruki started his showbiz career by the Drama 'Kanamachi' writtten by Anisul Haque. This was broadcasted by 'ETV' and was accepted hugely. Thereafter, they made a number of dramas. Among those, there are popular mega serials like 'Ekannoborti', '69' and others.

Anisul haque has introduced a new language in TV drama. Instead of using the traditional language, he used that form of language which is much practiced among the urban people. This idea was first practiced by late Mizanur Rahman, editor of a well known magazine. And that language has found its way in TV drama through Anisul Haque.

Though Anisul Haque is well known for contemporary novels, but he has written some novels which are based on some historical event. 'Maa' and 'Ayesha-mongal' are two novels of this genre. The novel 'Maa'(mother) has been his most successful and most praised work. On the backdrop of our great liberation war, this novel tells the story of a mother who lost his only son in that war. A mother, who raised the child by her own, without the help of father, sacrificed her son for the sake of freedom. The freedom was achieved, but the mother lost her everything. 'Maa' is been the portrait of millions of mothers of this soil who have sacrificed their sons for the sake of the nation.

Like most popular writer, Anisul haque is also criticized for the lack of depth in his novels. His some novels are written without any clue (well, money is a clue, of course). But still he has successfully introduced his own style in Bengali literature. Perhaps his trend setting ability will keep him alive in days to come.

Ahmad Safa

Ahmad Safa is one of the mighty writers of this soil. Once Muhammad jafar iqbal wrote somewhere that there may be someone more famous than Ahmad safa or someone with better writing skill, but it is Ahmad safa who is the most pure writer. Perhaps that is what he was, 100% writer.
Well, if we say that he was only a writer than this probably would be the worst judgment for someone as dynamic as Ahmad Safa was. He did almost everything that he felt it was there to be done. Perhaps his that habit restricted him from concentrating on a particular field.

He was more than a writer. He was a philosopher, political activist, entrepreneur of different programs like school for underprivileged children and community for non communal writer.

Ahmad Safa was a person who was driven only by his heart. Unlike many of his contemporary, he refused to bow down to evil. He was rather driven by his sense of right and wrong. And liker many of all-time greats, he was never happy with his works. Even though we now find how remarkable they actually are.

But like many other great writers his artwork was not evaluated properly during his lifetime. And he was just not worried about that. He commented on several interviews that his work will slowly be evaluated and it will get its proper reward only after his death.

For all great writers there is a paragraph allotted for the prizes that he received. But Bangladesh is perhaps a wrong country to own such a great writer. He was not selected for any kind of government awards. Perhaps that was the best reword offered to him. The declining morality of a society simply shown its back to a great genius and thereby widens the way of his immortality in the world which is beyond the boundary of a small piece of land or nation.

Ahmad Safa in short:
